BIOGRAPHY

Yadi Zhang is an imaginative and dynamic contemporary dance artist of the new generation. She grew up training in traditional Chinese dance and, at the age of 11, transitioned to contemporary dance at the Shanghai Dance School, where she graduated in 2022 and initially pursued her college education at the Beijing Dance Academy. Later that year, she decided to continue her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at the Boston Conservatory at Berklee. As a performer, Yadi has danced in many works such as Bill T. Jones' D-Man in the Waters, Darius Malone's When Angels Lie, Hu Shenyuan's As Flowers in the Field, Alexander Anderson’s Over the Edge, and Gianna Burright’s The Piece with the Carpet. She also collaborated with Xiaoyun Fan, the rehearsal director of Xiexin Dance Theater, on the solo piece Echo. Beyond performance, Yadi has taken on leadership and production roles. From 2023 to 2025, she served as a Movement Matters leader in Massachusetts. In 2025, she joined the Berklee Chinese New Year Gala production team at Symphony Hall in Boston, MA, contributing as both the Lighting and Dance Director. Yadi’s talent has been recognized in prestigious international competitions. She was awarded second place at the Seoul International Dance Competition in South Korea. She was ranked among the Top 5 Contemporary Dancers at the Domenico Modugno International Ballet and Modern Dance Competition—where she also received scholarships—and earned the Shanghai New Dancer and New Choreography award. Additionally, she participated in the inaugural Lausanne International Ballet Competition’s Youth Creation Award category.
